Keep Your Knife Always Clean
Your knife will not be with you forever. However, if you always clean it properly, you can lengthen its life. By cleaning, you are keeping the bacteria you may have picked along the way from destroying the blade of your knife. It does not necessarily mean that you need to clean your knife every time you are using it.

Just make sure you wipe some of the dirt or stain before you put it on the sheath. You can use dishwashing soap and running water to wash both the handle and blade. But before and after cleaning, check for the following:
- The dirt or stain on the blade.
- If both blade and handle are dry.
- No moisture should be left on the knife before putting it back to the sheath.
Wipe it With Oil
To prevent your knife from getting friction, you should wipe the blade often with oil. A small oil can protect the blade of your knife from getting rust. You can go to any local hardware or firearm store for the lubricating oil you are looking for. However, when oiling your knife, make sure you dab a small amount only. Do not use oil on the handle, especially if the material is rubber made. It will be too slippery for you to use and might end up slipping on your hands while cutting.
Always Sharpen Your Knife
Don’t believe that dull knife is better than having no knife. It might be useless if you don’t sharpen your knife before taking it with you on your adventure. A dull knife can also be dangerous to you or anyone using it. You will need to exert more effort when using it to get the performance you wanted. You might end up having blisters on your hand. It can also be difficult to control and can cause someone to be hurt near you if it slips on your hand.
Sharpening your knife is essential. You should be able to handle it by yourself. Why would you own a knife if you don’t even know how to sharpen one? So find time in learning how to sharpen properly. After that, make sure you regularly sharpen it.
Put the Knife in A Dry Place
Keep your knife in a humid-free area if you are not taking it with you. This is to keep moisture from entering your sheath that can damage the leather. You can use paper or a plastic bag inside and put it where it is cool and dry.
