Thinking beyond established knife industry barriers allows Spyderco Knives to introduce new and radical innovations to the knife culture including: One-hand opening, serrations on a folder and a clip to attach a knife to a pocket. They didn't go into business to rake in a mountain of dough, they are here for more selfish reasons- indulging a passion for creating knives. Spyderco is definitely out of the norm in the knife industry, they have a dedication to researching and developing fresh, improved and better performing materials all with function and reliability being key.  A Spyderco's recognizable appearance is a result of designing ergonomic functional tools rather than applying lipstick and nylons to a pocketknife. Some may look curious, homely, whatever, but they will never be called unusable or undependable. Making knives that consistently deliver reliable high-performance requires an ongoing commitment to testing. In their million-dollar testing facility,  they examine edge retention with a CATRA machine, look for rust development with Q-FOG, check the force needed to open and close a knife. They also repeatedly test for stress, wear, optimal heat-treating and actively search for higher quality, performance enhancing steels and materials. As a customer you probably don't think about this, or much care, but it allows Spyderco to put forth a promise. When you purchase a Spyderco you are buying a high-quality reliable cutting tool designed and manufactured for peak performance and ergonomic comfort. Dantes Knifeworks is pleased to offer these proven knives.  Order online today or contact Dantes Knifeworks at sales@dantesknife.com or at 1-877-KNIVES2 to place your order directly.

Dantes Note: I had never used a Spyderco knife prior to a few months ago.  While I had used their 204MF Sharpening System for over 15 years, I did not understand their knives.  This changed several months ago when I received a Delica as a gift.  These knives are performance monsters that can take whatever I throw at them.  Edge performance and edge retention are truly remarkable and quite frankly, I am impressed with how much easier my daily cutting tasks have become.  We will be expanding this line substantially in the near future and would welcome customer input on models we should be adding to the line up.

Blade Material: H1 Steel
Length/Style:  3.8" Clip Blade
Handle Material:  Black FRN
Closed Length: 4.94"
Sheath or Clip: Pocket Clip
Description:   A big myth in the knife world is that out there somewhere is a knife that seriously cuts but cannot rust. Knives claiming these super powers are usually made with steels that are unable to hold a cutting edge for any measurable amount of time. Finally a steel foundry in Japan called Myodo Foundry makes this myth a reality with the introduction of a new steel called H1.  Utilizing .1% nitrogen instead of carbon to harden the steel, it reaches a Rockwell hardness of 57-58rc.  As a salt water kayaker, a knife that won't rust is high on my list.  To not have to flush and oil your equipment after a day on the sea is a huge plus.   This is a must have item for those of you involved in water sports of any kind.

Make/Model:  Spyderco Lava
Blade Material: VG-10
Length/Style:  1.875" Spearpoint
Handle Material:  Stainless Steel
Closed Length: 3.44"
Sheath or Clip: Pocket Clip
Description:   During work hours Chad Los Banos is a Corrections Officer on Hawaii’s Big Island. On his free time he is a hobbyist who practices martial arts and collects knives. In both his job and on his free time he handles knives, lots of them in all shapes and sizes. This motivated him to develop his own knife design he calls the Lava. The Lava’s form follows function approach piqued Spyderco’s interest and a collaborative knife design was the result. The Spyderco/Los Banos Lava has a long curving handle paired with a short blade. The blade’s cutting edge drops downward creating a negative blade angle, a positive feature when holding the knife. The negative angle positions the blade’s cutting edge lower than the user’s index finger so the wrist is in alignment. When the blade and wrist align, you can cut longer with less fatigue and better leverage. Chad’s design philosophy was not to force the hand to fit the knife, but have the knife conform to the hand- any sized hand be it large or small.

The blade is high-carbon VG-10, flat-ground from heel to tip and features a ¾ length tang. Hand washing is recommended. Make/Model:  Spyderco Yin Kitchen Knife
Blade Material: VG-10
Length/Style:  6" Utility, Fully Serrated
Handle Material:  Black Ebony Wood
Overall Length: 11"
Description:   Yin and Yang are opposite and complementary forces. Spyderco's interpretation has created two kitchen knives with contrasting features. Used in conjunction they cover an array of food preparation needs. The Yin knife has a black ebony wood handle and Spyderco’s multi-level serration pattern called the SpyderEdge. Multi-level serrations offer two levels of teeth. The first level create penetration points (or tips) that initiate the cut and protect the tips behind them. The second set of tips continue resistance free cutting and protect the sharpened recessed curves behind them. What this means is that the blade stays sharper much longer even when used for cutting on a cutting board or repeatedly cutting fibrous, tough and frozen food items. The wooden handle is double riveted for solid/tight handle-to-blade connection and it generously tapers wide at the back so there is more handle surface to grip. The blade is high-carbon VG-10, flat-ground from heel to tip and features a ¾ length tang. Hand washing is recommended. Make/Model:  Spyderco Vagabond
Blade Material: AUS 6 Stainless
Length/Style:  3 1/8" Drop Point
Handle Material:  Glass Reinforced Nylon
Overall Length: 7 7/8"
Sheath or Clip: Integral Edge Sheath
Description:   The Spyderco Vagabond is designed for the wanderer. If you backpack, camp or picnic, chances are you've at some point needed a lightweight fixed-blade. The strong point of a fixed-blade knife is that they are manufactured from a single piece of steel with no folding parts to fail or break- ideal for use outdoors. A fixed-blade's weak point is they require a separate carry sheath for safe transport. The Vagabond's unique plastic sheath is made from part of the underside of the handle. A plastic cover pivots out/upward, snapping-over and safely covering the cutting edge eliminating the need for a bulky carrying sheath.
